The world is now a small place, and this is because of globalisation and technology, the perks is that we get to experience the excellent job of “The Man from Nowhere”. Although the story may be conventional (with the usual drugs, police and criminal underworld components) it’s still an enjoyable adventure to follow.

Set in South Korea, we meet Tae-Sik (Won Bin) who happens to be an ex-secret service personnel, who due to circumstances is now running a pawnshop. We then meet So-Mi (Kim Sae-ron), his next-door neighbour.

With the Korean Police tracking down an organised crime syndicate, the two paths are crossed. Tae-Sik (Won Bin) is then forced to help rescue So-Mi, and believe me when I say, Tae-Sik is no joke, he’s a total hardman!

As Tae-Sik is stringed along by blackmail from the crime syndicate, we see him in bloody hand to hand combat, gun fights and car chases - it’s all thrilling!

When your barber is on holiday so you have to cut your own hair - this was the turning point for Tae-Sik

I was not aware of any previous work from the cast due my lack of familiarity. However I will say a stand out performance from our main actress, Kim Sae-ron, who actually put on a performance that could make any grown man cry (but I didn’t cry, obviously, umm...someone just happened to be cutting onions at the time I was watching this, okay)...but yes, back to the point. It was a brilliant performance from her part, and really softens what was a hard-core film. Of course, our lead actor -Won Bin, whose acting was also on parr, as he did win an award for “best actor” for his role.

In relation to the cinematography, the film is shot and edited with a Neo-noir effect, adding mystery around the characters and helps suck you right in.

If you have a home cinema sound system, then this is going to be very enjoyable. This is because the sound effects during combat/shoot-out scenes and the theme music is well executed in the film.

Ever heard the phrase "Don't kidnap someone's next-door neighbour if they are ex-secret service , whom are primarily trained to kill with no mercy" before?...yeah, me neither but Tae-Sik is kicking ass in this scene

In its entity, this is a badass film especially with our main character, Tae-Sik (Won Bin) - Recommended a Watch.

7/10
